"Daydreaming" merges layers of nostalgia and whimsy through acrylic mixed media and collage on a cradled wood panel. A combination of translucent greens and blues sets a tranquil stage, punctuated by vivid bursts of warmth that suggest fleeting moments of joy. Embedded fragments of old maps and book pages emerge through the opacity, adding an element of discovery beneath the painting's ethereal surface.

About Karen Johnson

Karen Johnson is a seasoned textile designer and artist whose work explores layers of texture, color, and abstraction. Her artistic journey began with screen printing, weaving, and painting, later expanding into printmaking with monotypes that she exhibited widely. After taking time off to raise her son, Johnson reconnected with her artistic practice, focusing on acrylic painting and encaustic. Her recent work draws inspiration from urban textures and the concept of revealing hidden layers, influenced by the visual history of worn walls, graffiti, and weathered surfaces. Johnson's approach is intuitive, responding to the materials as her paintings evolve, with an emphasis on color, composition, and the organic process of discovery within each piece.
