Seiden’s Seamless series honors the unseen forces that hold things together. Using seams cut from worn clothing, Seiden draws gestural lines that hover over layers of collaged personal papers - fragments of memory partially obscured beneath the surface. Removed from their everyday function, these seams take on a poetic quality, as if set free.
Textiles, long tied to the rhythms of domestic life, serve as both medium and metaphor in Seiden’s work. Through abstraction, she transforms the overlooked and forgotten into something lyrical, finding beauty in reinvention.

About Larraine Seiden
Larraine Seiden’s art practice is deeply rooted in the language of textiles, drawing on traditions of collage and assemblage to transform overlooked materials into compositions of beauty and meaning. Inspired by the rhythms of quilting, she reimagines ephemera through abstraction, cutting and reassembling paper into layered forms that serve as both map and meditation. Her work embraces the constraints of daily life, weaving together the ordinary and the forgotten to create pieces that reflect personal and communal connections. By using simple, often discarded materials, Seiden grounds her practice in domesticity while exploring broader themes of time, space, and interdependence.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, Seiden was influenced by the formal traditions of textile arts, an aesthetic that continues to inform her work as a painter and mixed-media artist. She holds a Master’s in Art and Design Education from Pratt Institute and a Bachelor’s in Studio Art from California State University, East Bay. Her work has been featured in corporate collections and major exhibitions, including ArtSpan’s San Francisco Open Studios 50th Anniversary campaign. She has been an artist-in-residence at Kala Art Institute and InCahoots printmaking residency. Based in the East Bay, she remains an active contributor to the arts community, fostering creative engagement through volunteer initiatives and public art programs.
