There Is No Other, III
There Is No Other, III
In "There Is No Other, III," Eastman explores themes of identity and projection, creating a composition of eight figures, each emerging from a textured background that suggests both individuality and shared human experience. Using a photograph of a sidewalk stain as the foundation for each silhouette, Eastman crafts figures that embody complex layers of self-perception and hidden facets. The varied textures and images within each form challenge us to look beyond surface impressions, proposing that these figures are reflections of our own intricate psyches. Through this collage, Eastman questions the notion of "otherness," suggesting that what we perceive in others might be aspects of ourselves waiting to be understood.

About Dale Eastman
Dale Eastman is a multi-media artist who trained early on as both a seamstress and a journalist. Using a wide range of skills--from hand sewing to drawing to woodworking--Dale's art practice continually reaches for new connections, all in search of the underlying wholeness each of us craves. Her influences are also disparate, including artist Leonora Carrington, naturalist Ernst Haeckel and analytical psychologist Carl Jung. Prior to becoming an artist, Dale spent nearly two decades as a writer. Even now, from her art studio atop Russian Hill--one of the few San Francisco neighborhoods to survive the 1906 earthquake--storytelling is at the core of what she creates.
