In "There Is No Other, VI," Eastman transforms the familiar pattern of a brick sidewalk into a backdrop for a figure collaged from tree bark. This central form, with its organic contours and rough textures, awaken a mythical presence that contrasts sharply with the uniformity of the bricks. By layering these elements, Eastman challenges the viewer to see beyond the ordinary, suggesting that what we perceive as commonplace might hold deeper, unexpected meaning. Through this piece, she invites reflection on how we interpret the world around us - questioning whether we truly see others as they are or as projections of our inner minds.

About Dale Eastman

Dale Eastman is a multi-media artist who trained early on as both a seamstress and a journalist. Using a wide range of skills--from hand sewing to drawing to woodworking--Dale's art practice continually reaches for new connections, all in search of the underlying wholeness each of us craves. Her influences are also disparate, including artist Leonora Carrington, naturalist Ernst Haeckel and analytical psychologist Carl Jung. Prior to becoming an artist, Dale spent nearly two decades as a writer. Even now, from her art studio atop Russian Hill--one of the few San Francisco neighborhoods to survive the 1906 earthquake--storytelling is at the core of what she creates.
